Tony Mandarich

Mandarich played his college footballin the Big Ten, as a dominant Offensive Lineman with the Michigan State Spartans.

As a draft prospect he was featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated -- quite a feat for the Oakville born (1966)athlete.

Mandarich was named a first-team All-American, an Outland Award finalist and was twice a Big Ten Lineman of the Year, not to mention a Heisman trophy finalist.

Mandarich was chosen second in the 1989 draft, behind Troy Aikman but ahead of Deion Sanders and Derrick Thomas, as well as Heisman winner and Hall of Famer Barry Sanders.

He lasted only three seasons with Green Bay before being released in 1993. He made a brief (two season) comeback with the Indianapolis Colts in 1996.

In 2008 Mandarich admitted he used steroids at Michigan State and faked a drug test before the 1988 Rose Bowl.

He also said during an interview on "Inside the NFL" that he did not use steroids in the NFL but was addicted to alcohol and painkillers.

Mandarich said he provided a fake urine sample to evade detection before the '88 Rose Bowl in which Michigan State beat Southern California 20-17. Mandarich said he couldn't confirm a report that other players did the same.
