Hometown Heroes: NFL brings Chicago Bear Israel Idonije back to Manitoba

The undefeated Chicago Bears have a bye-week, and former University of Manitoba Bison ISRAEL IDONIJE, now a defensive lineman with the Bears, is back in his home province to help the NFL in its continued efforts to create excitement for the game of football with young Canadians.

Idonije will unveil a banner for the reigning NFL Flag Football World Silver Medalists at ecole River Heights School in Winnipeg, sign autographs, attend the University of Manitoba Bison Football Alumni Scholarship Dinner, and perform the coin toss when the Bisons take on the Regina Rams.

Friday October 20, 10:30 a.m. to Noon: ecole River Heights School gymnasium, NFL Flag Football World Championship banner unveiling and speech to students, 1350 Grosvenor Avenue, Winnipeg

Friday October 20, 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. : River City Sports, public autograph session, Polo Park, 666 St. James Street, Winnipeg

Friday October 20, 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.: University of Manitoba University Centre (multipurpose room), University of Manitoba Bison Football Alumni Scholarship dinner

Saturday, October 21, 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.: University of Manitoba, University Stadium, Manitoba Bisons vs Regina Rams

BACKGROUND:

Israel Idonije played high school football at Vincent Massey in Brandon, MB, and went on to an All-Canadian career with the University of Manitoba Bisons. Idonije signed his first NFL contract in 2003 as an undrafted free agent with the Cleveland Browns. Prior to the 2006 NFL season Idonije signed a long-term contract with the Bears. The 6 foot 7, 275-pound defender is one of the Bears most versatile players, lining up at both the Right Defensive End and Left Defensive End positions.
