A Conversation with Chiefs DE Jared Allen
By Ian Allen
I’m sure most people do not know how dynamic Chiefs defensive end Jared Allen is. Take for instance his game day attire, and what he likes to listen to the day of the game.
Most people on game day usually prefer to go suited and booted, but that is not the case with our featured player this week.
When asked about what is his game day attire, this is what Jared had to say:
“My favorite game day outfit would have to be my John Travolta suit from Saturday Night Live…. my all white with the pink shirt with the big ol’ lapels on it, its just Sweet!”
Now that’s what I’m talking about, a man with style and uniqueness, its pretty rare these days.
Now one of the other most question usually asked about what happens on game day is what’s on your ipod, or what are you listening to.
Myself, I would prefer a select choice of music, and particularly my own that I created. If not my own, it would be something like gospel, or easy listening tracks, with an occasional rap song.
But not Jared Allen.
“Right now its Hank Williams Jr.,” said Allen. “You know one of my favorites (I like women I never had), and then probably something like Alkaline Trio, and one of the greatest songs ever (Dream Boy Dream Girl by Cynthia featuring Johnny O)”.
I know you can’t hear this conversation, but to give a little more on how he described the last song mentioned, it was as if he were explaining to you how one would prepare and season a piece of steak. I loved it.
I know for all the Chiefs fans , you are a little bit frustrated by how the season is going, but hopefully this writing could let you see some of the lighter side of the players on your team, and potentially a ….smile. Until next time.
Ian Allen played offensive line in the NFL for six seasons, primarily with the New York Giants. He now hosts an NFL radio program on www.colourfulradio.com, Mondays, 3:00 p.m. EST
