Peterson is for real

By Ian Allen

You know, being in tv as an analyst is a lot different then a player…and I say that more from an observational perspective. When I watch the games, the game really opens up to on another level, almost as if you are the video camera up above filming every pummeling hit, block, tackle, or play. In essence, there is a term used amongst players, and that term is “the eye in the sky doesn’t lie”. It catches every mistake, every blown assignment, and every mind boggling display of athleticism, and now without further ado…introducing Adrian Peterson.

With rookies it is always hard to tell what it is they will bring to the table. There are not that many guys who come through the league as high draft picks, and actually make an impact in their 1st season, but Adrian Peterson is one of those guys. This guy is averaging close to 130 yds per game, and only has 3 fumbles, and running through his opposition as if they were not even in the way. Then he has his occasional side step, Muhammad Ali shuffle, and his own “sacrifice your body for the university” mentality.

After last week’s display of the Adrian Peterson show, he made me a believer. There is a lot of speculation whether or not he will get rookie of the year honors, and also would he be placed in the Hall of Fame(now that is Way to early to determine), but he has my vote for rookie of the year. With having to deal with multiple challenges off the field with, deaths in the family, and many others, this rookie has shown that he is capable of greatness, and could potentially be in that Elite class in Canton, Ohio one day,…but not today,…one day.

Ian Allen played offensive line in the NFL for six seasons, primarily with the New York Giants. He now hosts an NFL radio program on www.colourfulradio.com, Mondays, 3:00 p.m. EST
