Dark horse Giants ride
By Ian Allen
We are now in round two of the playoffs, and last week’s losers packed their bags and its vacation time. But there are a couple of winners that in my opinion need to be watched out for. The San Diego Chargers, and the New York Giants.
The Giants (believe it or not) always have a playoff/championship caliber team.
Their biggest enemy is the media and themselves.
It would appear that they have finally figured out how to not defeat themselves this season by buying into Tom Coughlin’s message of just play football and do your talking on the football field.
What tells me that they are a team to reckon with is the way the handled the New England Patriots. If it were me, I would have rested my starters, but you can’t cry over spilled milk. Anyway, they almost beat the Patriots decisively. The Patriots entered the 4th quarter down by probably the highest deficit they’ve faced all season. I understand that ultimately the Pats won, but with a couple of tweaks here and there during the post season, the Giants could turn a couple of heads and continue to surprise.
Also, don’t forget that Tony Romo could potentially be without Terrell Owens this weekend, and that could pose a viable opportunity to the best team in the National Football League on the road, the New York Giants.
The Chargers started the season off pretty rough until finally Phillip Rivers began to become a mature Quarterback, and started to make better decisions with the football. The addition of Chris Chambers certainly helped with this change.
My point is they are in a position in which many people did not believe they could be because of the dismal start of the season. They’ve already beaten the Colts twice this year, and their defence and offensive line are really coming together.
