Thurman's playoff musings

Each week throughout the season and playoffs, Pro Football Hall of Fame runningback Thurman Thomas will share his insights exclusively with NFLCanada.com

I went 2 and 2 for the first round of the playoffs. The biggest surprise for me was how the Chargers handled the Colts, I know it went to overtime, but the Colts were outplayed in every phase of the game.

AFC:

The Chargers travel to Pittsburgh this weekend. According to my Formula (see last weeks blog) the Steelers should win easily, with or without Big Ben. I see the Steelers winning by 10.

Baltimore and Tennessee should really be a meat grinder; these teams are tough, run oriented, and led by iron-willed veterans. My lame-brain formula says the Titans, and I agree, I think better quarterback play from Kerry Collins will be the difference. The Titans also have the best coach in the league; this will be my favorite game of the weekend.

NFC:

The best chance for a road team win this weekend belongs to Philly. When division rivals play three times in one year, the third game is almost always a fierce grudge match. The outcome of this game hinges on the Eagles offensive line, if they can make some room for the best all-purpose back in the league, Brian Westbrook, they’ll have a good chance. They will have to do it sooner than they did against the Vikings. My formula says the Giants; I’m going with Philly.

Arizona travels to Carolina for the end of their Cinderella season. Carolina is very good in all phases of the game. Although Arizona ran with some success last week, it won’t happen this week and Carolina wins by 14.
